Dear residents, we’ve had a lot of enquiries over the last few days regarding electric scooters. We have also had to speak to a number of people about this. It remains illegal to ride a privately owned electric scooter on the public highway. The only place that these can be used is on private land with the landowner’s permission.
As of last Saturday, 4th July it is now legal to ride rental scooters on the public highway provided you have a valid driving licence. It remains illegal to ride a privately owned electric scooter on the highway. Please don’t get caught out as you will be issued with a fine.
I have provided a link to a recent news story on the changes which puts the changes clearly and succinctly:
Also, for your information, Norman Park is again being used today (Thursday 9th July) as a Covid-19 testing site. This means that the main gates at the Hayes Lane entrance will remain closed except for those who have pre-booked a testing slot. The pedestrian gate will remain open as usual. Please be aware of your surroundings and those around you if you head to the park. If you are going to use the park on these days please walk there rather than driving as parking along Mead Way and Hayes Lane makes it very congested.
The army is expected to be back at the site on Sunday 12th, Wednesday 15th and Saturday 18th July as well. If you want to request a test please follow the link below:
Thank you for your help and support, please remember to wear a face-covering on public transport and in the shops and continue to follow the social distancing rules as much as possible.
