Following the sad death of Councillor Andrew Lee which saw many tributes shared, a by-election has now been announced.

The by-election will take place on Thursday 7 December 2023 for residents in the Hayes and Coney Hall Ward, after the Notice of Election was published today (2 November).

Residents must be registered to vote in the Hayes and Coney Hall Ward to vote, with 21 November being the deadline to register.

Voter ID will be required at the polling stations for this and subsequent elections in the borough, following recent national legislation. There are various forms of valid photo ID, including passport, driver’s licence, blue badge, 60+ oyster card, the freedom pass and many more

While expired IDs are also accepted as long as there is a likeness, an alternative is available to any residents without valid IDs. Residents can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate up to 5 p.m. on Wednesday 29 November, which will also be valid for subsequent elections, with more information online.

The deadline to apply for postal voting for the by-election is 5 pm on Wednesday 22 November and to apply for proxy voting is 5 pm on Wednesday 29 November.

Further changes to rules and provisions have also been introduced for this election, including improving accessibility of polling stations.
