Please find attached the latest Bromley wide community newsletter. I also have a couple of bulletins for you:
Firstly, please be aware of a new ‘phone scam going around. We have had a resident contacted by someone claiming to be from M&S banking alerting the resident to possible fraudulent payments in their name through Paypal. They were text a “security code” by the bank to apparently verify their identity and told the resident that they would identify the matter further. What they were actually doing was making an unauthorised purchase themselves using the resident’s details and using Paypals “one-time code” system against the victim. The money has since been refunded but please be aware and help spread the word to prevent further victims. This example is a step above what we usually get and was very convincing.
Secondly, rogue traders. One of our residents has alerted us to the fact that rogue traders have been spotted in the area again. These typically target elderly and/or vulnerable people. A group of workers in a van turn up and tells the resident that they can do a bit of gardening or building work for a small amount of money. They then do the work and charge the resident far more than they said that they were going to. If you are concerned about a neighbour who is getting some work done and feel that they are being taken advantage of then please call the police in the first instance and our colleagues at Bromley trading standards on 07903 852 090 so that we can investigate.
Lastly, I am afraid to say that this is my last day on the ward as I am starting a new role in Bexley from Monday. I joined the ward back in February 2016 and have to say that I have enjoyed every minute of it; it really has been a pleasure to be your PCSO and serve the community here which is absolutely thriving. I want to thank you all for your help and support over the time that I have been here and the partnerships that have been made. After 17 ½ years as PCSO, I have opted for a new challenge and am joining the met’s character enquiry centre as a referencing and vetting officer. It was not a decision that I took lightly but am looking forward to seeing what it brings. My email will remain the same so please use it if you want to stay in touch.
I leave you in the very capable hands of our PC’s Dan and Liam who can still be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please remember that the ward panel AGM is on Wednesday 15th September at the Amrita Hall at 1930hrs. Being an AGM this is open to the public so please attend if you are able to.
There are further drop in surgeries during the month as follows:
