The Kent underground tunnels hidden beneath our feet and their fascinating stories – 2

Part Two

Chislehurst Caves

These caves were mined by hand for more than 8,000 years and were mined for the use of flint and lime until the 1830s.

The caves were opened as a tourist attraction in the 20th century, telling the story of the Druids, Romans and Saxons.

The labyrinth covers some 22 miles of man-made tunnels.

Visitors today can hear the dark tales of the caves, which include smuggling and even murder.
